1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt, 1/25, Revell.

Finally got to make the ’64 Fairlane, and it has been a long time coming. I kept having issues with the kits I got, and this one finally paid off. I was going to use the stock hood, but the paint just didn’t come out like the rest, so I teardropped the sucker. Underneath it is the 289 from a ’63 Cobra kit, and a basic exhaust out the bottom.

1978 Jeep CJ, 1/25, Monogram (custom)

This was a couple of firsts for me with model work. The first is I’ve never built a Jeep before. Not that it is revolutionary, but it is very different than a ’65 Cuda. The second thing was manufacturing materials for said Jeep. I had to make the rear rollbars and taillights, as this one came with the off-road lights and rollbar that added a cloth canopy. I wanted more of a regular ole CJ with beefy tires, and it worked perfectly.

I also reworked the engine bay a tad, tweaked the exhaust, and had to remake the bird decal as the one included was toast. This one really surprised me, and in the end, I love it… even if I wouldn’t be caught dead owning one 😵.

2016 Mercedes AMG GT, 1/24, Revell

Last Merc I tried to make that wasn’t the SLR, was the SLS Gullwing, which came out lousy. My fault, me thinks, however, this one was not only more fun, but came out great. I used a new “hobby paint” I found in a hot pink version, and aside from a LONG drying time, it worked awesome. No runs, no spots, perfect.

Made the top of the engine red so it would stand out; I still have some detail work to do under the hood.

I cut the side glass carefully so I could have the door glass open for interior viewing. The photos don’t do the car justice – as the interior is a gray (looks tan from the light). I wholeheartedly endorse this model as it goes together easily and looks great when done.

1969 Olds Hurst, 1/25, AMT

This one is literally 35 years in the making. I got this from my Mom when I was about 14, and it was my FIRST model ever. Painted white with a brush (garbage one, too), it looked fairly ok when done, but it had a LOT of problems. The axle broke and was a glue bomb, the paint was only OK, fingerprints in the finished product, I ruined the rear bumper trying to remove the exhaust tips from it, and the decals were a complete mess.

In the end, I had the stripes on but had to use non-matching gold metallic paint to fill the gaps; the hood ones didn’t work at all, and I was sad about the process.

This one was done RIGHT. I copied the decal sheet, printed copies of all the stripes, and used multiple attempts to make it all work. I used to stare at this sucker and wish it was mint, and now I have it.

I can say I like the 442 W-30 version better, and it makes me laugh, as I thought the Hurst my hero for many years. That said, I’m glad to have finally made it and can say with assurity, will not do so ever again! LOL

These will be listed amongst my other sheets, and eventually I will review them all. Suffice to say, I like how they all came out and cannot wait for the next bunch to build.
